Casual Maternity Outfit: Polka Dots and White Jeans

casual maternity look; pregnancy style; simple top knot

This is a casual, comfortable maternity look that I put together a couple of weeks ago.  For those curious, I was between 17-18 weeks pregnant in these shots.  My bump had definitely popped!

I am in love with Asos maternity t-shirts.  I have 3 so far, but I may have to purchase some others.  This polka dot one is a much bolder pattern than I typically wear, but once I put this maternity outfit together, I loved it.

The jeans are not maternity (I’ve been using the hair tie trick), but they are still really comfortable.  They were a J. Crew Factory find.  My mom found these shoes at the Gap outlet recently.  I listed some similar ones (at great prices) below.

Let’s talk about this backpack… if I find something I love, I tend to use it over and over and over again.  This bag fits into that category!  I think I may have posted the link in a previous post, but I’ve added the link below as well.  Asos for the win! faux leather backpack; maternity look, white jeans and polka dotsfaux leather backpack; maternity white jeans outfit

And the details: Todd and Davis gave me this petite Daniel Wellington watch with rose gold for Mother’s Day, and it is perfect for casual, warm weather looks.  I know I’ve posted this bracelet before, but here is the link to the shop again.  Mine has my son’s birthday and name. My cuff is old from Forever 21, but I found an almost identical one.

A messy top-knot is a must for busy moms, especially in the humidity of the South!

New Workout Plan + Workout Clothes

Happy 2016!  Though I did not write a list of resolutions like I have done in years past (I’m trying to give myself a bit of a break this year), I do have a fitness resolution.  If you read my blog, you know that I am obsessive passionate about staying healthy and eating clean.  And, honestly, I am okay with my weight, so I’m not starting a diet.  But – I have not been doing my best at staying fit and strong.  I felt gross over much of the holidays, and I blame it on a lack of physical activity and sleep.

This year I knew I’d need something that I could achieve.  I needed a goal to work towards, not just an “I’m going to work out more” resolution.  So, I asked for Kayla Itsine’s BBG workout guide for Christmas!  I received the guide for weeks 1-12.  I have done the workout for 1 week, and I am truly enjoying it so far.  Don’t get me wrong – it is kicking my butt – but in a good way!  I have felt SO MUCH BETTER since starting to exercise again!

We also have plans to run a race this Spring.  I am not intending to run a half marathon like I have in years past, but at least this will force me to run and train.

I know I have the ability to get fit and maintain being in shape, but it will certainly take drive and discipline!  I may post my progress on here, just to keep myself accountable.  We’ll see. ;)

Moving on to the fun stuff…because we all know that new workout clothes are the best motivation to get to the gym!  Did you all know that Forever 21 has the cutest activewear line?!  I have recently discovered it, and I am absolutely planning to order a few of these items asap.  Especially the sports bras – mine are in sad shape.  These are all labeled “High Impact,” which would work for the type of workouts I’m doing.

Here are some of my other workout and gym essentials:

Muscle tee style tanks are ideal to me.  They are breathable and not tight.  One of these paired with a cute sports bra would be perfect!

My favorite!

I found a couple layering pieces to wear before and after a sweat session at the gym!

I love workout capris.  My current favorites are Zella and Reebok.  Some Nike capris would also be awesome to have.

Another essential is a running hat.  I have a Nike one like this, that is breathable.  It has held up very well, despite sweating in it many times.

Running shoes are another must-have.  I loved my Nike Frees for the past few years, but I have worn them out.  I asked for a pair of the gray Nike Zoom Pegasus running shoes for Christmas, and so far I love them!

And, if you’re planning to shower at the gym, a bag is key.  This one from Urban Outfitters, and the one in the picture, are great options.  They work for the gym and could be an overnight bag.  My bag tends to get wet there, and gyms are not the most clean places (eww), so don’t spend too much on one!  When I know I’m going to be going to the gym and showering there too, I keep my gym bag in my closet with a Ziploc bag of travel-sized toiletries.  And cheap flip-flops!  Don’t forget those!

Here’s to a strong 2016!

Life Lately, Pinterest Recipe Successes, Fall Outfits, The Panthers, etc

Life is giving me a run for my money lately.  There just aren’t enough hours in the day!  I have let my blog suffer recently, so I want to catch up on some things today.

On to the updates….

  • A few weeks ago we celebrated my sweet friend, Ashley, for her 30th birthday! I never posted anything about it, so I had to make up for that! Her husband and mine are also close friends and own Honor Roll Designs together.  I am so very grateful for their friendship!  Plus they are the most fun travel buddies. (We tend to all have way too much fun together. Ha!)

  • Go Panthers!!!  Our city is pumped for our current NFL success!  Our sweet neighbors have season tickets, and when her husband wasn’t able to go to the game last Monday, my friend invited me!  I hadn’t been to a game in years, so this was such a treat.  It was POURING rain that night, with flood warnings throughout Charlotte.  The game ended up going into overtime, but thankfully we won!!

  • You need this top from Zara.  This isn’t sponsored or anything like that.  I just love this top!  I bought it from Zara when I was in Paris, and I have worn it too many times already.  I am sort of petite, and it is a great length.

  • I bought this cardigan from Forever 21, not knowing whether or not I would wear it often.  Well, I love it and have worn it a couple times already.  I also love this one and this one.

  • Spaghetti squash is my current favorite vegetable.  Well maybe that and brussels sprouts! I made this spaghetti squash mushroom “risotto” recently, and it was so good.  Rich, but healthy.  A Pinterest success!! I’ve also mixed leftover spaghetti squash with sautéed spinach, tomatoes, and other veggies for a perfect, clean lunch.

I want to make these burrito bowls next:

  • Another Pinterest recipe success.  My mom shared this recipe for baked steel cut oats, and it is delicious!  I mixed the oats and the liquid mixture the night before, then spread out peeled and diced apples in the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan the next morning (I doubled the whole recipe!).  Then I poured in the oat/liquid mixture and baked.  It was so filling and delicious.  And it gave us breakfast for several days.  Thumbs up.  I will make it with blueberries next!

That’s it for now!  I will be back tomorrow with my Friday favorites.  Thank you for sticking with me through my sporadic blogging. :)

Five on Friday

Looking at my calendar for this weekend is exciting!  It is going to be busy, but with fun celebrations…a baby shower at my house for a dear friend tomorrow, and a fancy date night for our anniversary!

I am linking up with April, Christina, Natasha; Karli; Erika, Narci, and Andrea to share some of my favorite things this Friday.

ONE: Pumpkin donuts – Hello!  I am planning to make some of these this weekend.  Yum!

TWO: Forever 21 purchases.  I recently saw a peasant blouse on Angela Lanter‘s instagram, and knew I had to try it!  I ordered it, and am hoping it works on me!  I also ordered a couple other items.  If they work, I’m sure I’ll use them in an outfit post soon.

THREE: Interior design on Instagram.  IG houses an abundance of style and design inspiration!  And if you have any suggestions, please let me know!  Today I wanted to share a few favorite interior designers, in case you’re in need of some extra inspiration:

FOUR: The weather this past weekend in Charlotte was simply amazing.  We spent plenty of time outside, and I even ran 3 miles without thinking twice.  The run did not even feel difficult!  I took Kenan for part of the run.  He’s getting older, but still keeps up with me (with plenty of encouragement). :)

Happy weekend to you all!  I hope it’s wonderful!

Friday Favorites: Summer to Fall Outfits

For this week’s edition of my Five on Friday/Friday Favorites, I decided to put together 5 (well 6, really) outfits from my closet.  Fall is almost here, and any time one season is transitioning to the next, finding appropriate outfits can be puzzling.  It is still in the 90s here, but I am dreaming of slightly cooler days!  That black and white outfit below particularly has my attention!

I am linking up with April; Karli; Erika, Narci, and Andrea today for all of the fun Friday blog parties!

THE GOOD LIFE BLOGfridayfavorites3_zpsea6fc451-1

Here’s the deal…I essentially went shopping in my own closet.  All of my clothes are affordable, and from all over the place.  I often shop at Asos, Marshall’s, LOFT, Nordstrom (sales), Gap, sometimes J Crew Factory, and Forever 21.  Though I do not know the exact sources of all of the items pictured, I did find alternative options for you!  And everything (besides maybe the jeans and the watch) are under $100.

ONE: This outfit still has a summer feel, but is warm enough to wear when the nights are cooler.  And the shoes and long sleeves make it early autumn appropriate.

Orange Shoulder Cut-Out Blouse (SO CUTE) | Joe’s White Skinny Jeans | House of Harlow Turquoise & Gold Necklace | Turquoise & Gold Earrings | Chinese Laundry Open Toe Fringe Bootie (mine are Steve Madden Paulina, but I cannot find them anywhere online)

TWO: So…I couldn’t find this lilac blouse anywhere (it is originally from the junior’s section in Nordstrom and could possible still be found in store).  But, I thought this outfit was a good alternative to a summer dress if you have an occasion to attend.  This can be worn when it is hot out, but is acceptable for Fall. I’m helping host a baby shower in a couple of weeks, and I am tentatively planning to wear this outfit.

lilac blouse; dolce vita nolin heels; lace skirt; outfit for a baby shower in September

Gray Blouse (also a gorgeous teal one!) | Lace Skirt | Kendra Scott Elisa Necklace (mine is gold with a gray stone | Dolce Vita Heel

THREE: F L A R E jeans!  I am so glad I held onto these jeans.  I bought these Joe’s flare jeans from Off 5th 4 or 5 years ago and have only worn them a couple of times.  Now that flare and wide leg jeans are back in style, I will absolutely wear them this year!  I went with a bit of a boho look for this look by pairing the jeans with the extra long cardigan.  The green shirt under it is basically a dressy t-shirt that I found at Marshall’s.  I also think this look would be perfect with a white t-shirt instead of the green, tucked in at the front, and a few long, dainty necklaces.

FOUR: This may be my favorite and I believe white and black plaid is perfection.  This outfit will absolutely be a wardrobe staple in the next few months!

white and black plaid shirt; black jeans; black ankle boots

Black and White Plaid Blouse | Asos Black Ripped Skinny Jeans | Sole Society Black Ankle Boots | Gray and Gold Stud Earrings (Forever 21 version – less than $5)

FIVE: Can you ever go wrong with a classic?  This softened dress shirt from LOFT is comfortable, and can easily go from a super casual day look to an outfit for a meeting or a dinner.

Thank you for stopping by!  This was much different than my typical Friday posts, but I do hope you enjoyed it.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Five Favorites on Friday + Forever 21 Finds (free shipping!)

Whew, Friday.  I’m slowly catching up on blogging after a truly hectic couple of weeks.  Davis getting sick coupled with lots of work projects for both Todd and I, meant that my poor blog had to take a back seat.  But it made me realize how much I love this little online space of mine.  So, I’m back, grateful it’s the weekend, and looking forward to basketball, sunshine, and a short getaway with my husband.  Happy weekend!!!

Linking up with my Friday friends again today: April, Darci, Christina, Natasha; Karli; and Erika, Narci, and Andrea.

ONE: You guys!  Forever 21 has FREE SHIPPING right now!  No minimum purchase!  I just received an order from Forever 21, and I wanted to share a couple items.  You’re probably all feeling the same way that I am, in wanting to fill up your closet with warm-weather clothes.  Here are 2 of my favorite purchases that are perfect for the transition into Spring:

Heather Grey Knit Top

I have worn this top twice this week!  It is SO comfortable!

forever 21 find

Love love love this light pink blazer!

TWO: I’m working on a “summer body” eating plan.  Nothing crazy!  I am just NOT ready to get into a bikini yet, so I’m trying to be better about my food choices, and do lots of toning.  I already eat very healthy, but I let myself snack way too often.  I’ve said this before, but tortilla chips are my downfall.  I have not been eating any sweets and it is great!  My goal is to fill up more at meals, eat more healthy fats, and less sugar.  I will post more next week.  Here is an example of my breakfasts:

healthy breakfast idea

THREE: I went on a date night with my two boys to Viva Chicken the other night.  Has anyone tried it? The food and service were great, and it was fast and inexpensive.  Plus it is pretty healthy!  We let Davis sit in the booth and he basically danced all through dinner. They’re the greatest!

FOUR: Am I the only one who considers chopping her long hair at least 5 times a day? (you can see how long mine is in the picture above). Shorter hair is so in right now, but I just never like when I cut my hair.  I need to make up my mind and embrace it either way.  Ugh, girl problems. ;)  ;)
I do love this hair – it isn’t that short (but let’s be real, I’d never actually look like that):

medium length hair

FIVE: Found this on Miss Dixie’s blog recently.  Trying to make this a daily goal.
